Thank you for your interest in shadowing with the University of Cincinnati Division of PM&R. We are excited to be able to show you what PM&R is all about and help you discover whether it is the right fit for you! Please review the below FAQs and don’t hesitate to reach out with additional questions.
Who do you allow to shadow in your division? We currently accept undergraduate students and medical students from any school for shadowing activities (COVID restrictions may impact this at various times throughout the year)
What types of shadowing experiences do you offer? We typically offer a student to join us in various outpatient clinics (musculoskeletal, sports, neurorehab, spasticity management). We can sometimes accommodate students on the inpatient or consult teams as well.
What locations are shadowing experiences offered? We typically offer experiences at the Drake Center, main UC Medical campus (various clinics and main hospital), & Northern KY. We do have a few providers who spend time at UC West Chester as well as in Dayton and can occasionally accommodate students in those locations.
What duration of experiences do you offer? At this time, we are not able to offer long term shadowing experiences. Students are able to join in for 3 half-days a quarter. (This restriction does not apply to UC COM first and second year medical students). We do not offer official rotations for credit for outside medical students prior to their fourth year of medical school.
Do you offer shadowing experiences year round? While we do offer shadowing year round, we cannot guarantee it. May-September tend to be the busiest for us. Since we are a smaller program, we want to ensure that all who rotate/shadow with us have an amazing experience and thus we may not be able to accommodate as many requests for shadowing in the summer and fall months.
How do I signup for shadowing?
- If you are a current University of Cincinnati College of Medicine medical student, we recommend you become involved with the PM&R Student interest group as we work with them directly to offer shadowing to current UC medical students.
- If you are an undergraduate student or a medical student from another institution, please review the tab on this website “Requesting Student Shadowing” and follow the instructions
- If you are a rising or current 4th year medical student looking for an official rotation, we utilize VSLO and encourage you to apply through that service. We do not office rotations outside of VSLO.
